About Me
Jan Istenič is a Slovenian drummer whose musical journey began with a deep dedication to rhythm and expression from an early age. He studied classical percussion at the Music School of Škofja Loka under the mentorship of Professor Jaka Strajnar, where he developed a strong technical foundation alongside a refined sense of dynamics and musical sensitivity.
Drawn to the freedom of improvisation, he later transitioned into jazz and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Drums at the Gustav Mahler Private University in Klagenfurt, studying with Professor Klemens Marktl. There, he continues to shape his artistic voice through contemporary approaches to rhythm, interaction, and sound.
Jan has performed extensively across Slovenia and internationally, collaborating on projects spanning jazz, pop, Latin, and contemporary music. His versatility and musical awareness allow him not only to support, but elevate every musical setting.
Based between Slovenia and Austria, his playing blends technical precision with emotional depth — creating a dialogue between musicians, rhythm, and the moment.
